Cheshire, CT — The 2nd Annual Greenwood Gauntlet delivered high drama and standout performances this past weekend, as Team Keiling-White emerged victorious in the final two-game tournament with a perfect 2-0 record.

The Gauntlet, now in its second year, featured a special twist — combining Majors and Minors players on the same teams. The format gave siblings the rare chance to play together and brought the Cheshire baseball community even closer ahead of the spring season.

Game 1 Recap

Team Keiling-White edged out Team Farrell-Red in a 9-8 thriller that went down to the wire. After several lead changes and big hits on both sides, Owen L’s triple tied the game late before Ryder K knocked in the winning run with a walk-off single in the bottom of the fourth.

Carter D led the offense with two hits and two RBIs, while Joey M and Nick M also drove in a pair each. Team Farrell-Red made it a battle with nine walks and strong efforts at the plate from Jack F (2-for-2) and key RBIs from Daniel G and Elan G.

Game 2 Recap

Team Keiling-White rode that momentum into Game 2, rolling past Saturday Team-Gray with a commanding 10-1 win. After falling behind early, they took control with seven runs over the first two innings, sparked by hits from Joey M, Nathan K, and Ryder K; and tacked on runs late with serious firepower from Blake S and Grant F. 

Grant F and Eric H shut things down on the mound, keeping Team-Gray off the board after the opening inning. Patient at-bats paid off again, as Team Keiling-White drew seven walks.

A Community Win

The Greenwood Gauntlet continues to grow as a preseason tradition, and this year’s event was the most inclusive yet. By blending divisions and encouraging family connections, the tournament proved that baseball in Cheshire is about more than just the scoreboard.
